Executive Summary

Industrial IT is unforgiving: downtime immediately hits production, labeling, shipping, and reporting. When FOMAR started scaling, their infrastructure grew faster than their documentation, standards, and security controls.
Professnet stepped in to document the environment end-to-end, modernize the network and Wi-Fi, rebuild server services on new hardware, and repatriate selected workloads from Azure to local infrastructure. In parallel, we took ownership of Service Desk operations, workstation administration, and implemented BitLocker disk encryption as a baseline security standard.

The Challenge: Production IT cannot run on tribal knowledge

Before the project, FOMAR faced challenges typical for fast-growing industrial environments:

01

No reliable documentation

There was no single source of truth for network topology, VLANs, server roles, or storage connectivity.

02

Aging network & Wi-Fi

Legacy access points and switching created operational friction, limited visibility, and complicated troubleshooting.

03

Hybrid complexity (Azure + On-prem)

Workloads spread across the cloud and local resources increased support overhead and made change management risky.

04

Security baseline gaps

Inconsistent workstation standards, legacy OS constraints, and a need for encryption and secure remote access practices.

The Solution: A phased modernization roadmap

Instead of “changing everything at once” (which creates chaos), we delivered the transformation in controlled phases:

Book a Technology Consultation

01 Phase

Phase 01

Full Inventory & Documentation (“Build the map first”)

We inventoried servers, storage links, network devices, and production terminals. We delivered a full documentation pack (diagrams, VLAN plans, device registers) and identified legacy constraints for specialized QC software.

02 Phase

Phase 02

Network & Wi-Fi Modernization

We modernized the access layer with new switches and a UniFi Controller rollout. A Wi-Fi refresh improved coverage in the halls, while VLAN segmentation separated office traffic from production, printing, and management flows.

03 Phase

Phase 03

Server Migration & Repatriation

We deployed new server hardware designed for high availability and rebuilt key services (DFS, Print). Crucially, we repatriated selected workloads from Azure to local infrastructure to reduce dependencies and simplify operations.

04 Phase

Phase 04

Operations & Security Baseline

We established end-to-end Service Desk ownership and standardized workstation administration. Security was tightened by rolling out Windows 11 (where compatible) and enforcing BitLocker disk encryption as a default control.

Key Results & Business Impact

Operational Efficiency

Faster troubleshooting thanks to complete documentation and standardized network management.

Reduced Friction

Improved stability for production terminals and labeling/printing paths.

Security & Governance

Encrypted endpoints (BitLocker) and MFA-secured remote access are now the baseline.

Audit Readiness

Asset and configuration clarity allows for easier risk discussions.

Transferability

Onboarding new IT staff no longer depends on tribal knowledge.
