Executive Summary

Schurter Poland, the local branch of a Swiss manufacturer of electronic components, operates within a global organisation whose central IT department is headquartered in Switzerland. This means the local infrastructure must simultaneously satisfy the operational requirements of the Polish office and the strict technical and security standards imposed by corporate headquarters.

Professnet assumed full responsibility for the IT environment of the Polish branch, becoming the single point of contact for local users and a trusted technical partner in collaboration with the global IT team. Over the course of a multi-year engagement, several key initiatives were delivered: a multi-tier backup system was implemented, the entire IT infrastructure was migrated to a new office location, the network was modernised, and continuous day-to-day user support was maintained throughout.

The result of this partnership is a stable, secure, and globally compliant IT environment that supports the daily operations of the Schurter Poland team and enables the company to scale its activities without infrastructural constraints.

The Challenge: The Multi-Dimensional Needs of a Global Corporate Branch

Schurter Poland operated in an environment of considerable operational complexity. As a branch of an international organisation, it was required to simultaneously meet the needs of local users and adhere to the rigorous technological standards set by the global parent company. Prior to engaging Professnet, the company faced several co-existing challenges.

The Solution: An Integrated IT Management Model

Professnet implemented a fully integrated service model, assuming the role of strategic technology partner for the Schurter Poland branch. The scope of the engagement encompassed both ongoing administration and user support, as well as the delivery of complex infrastructure projects. The key areas of activity are described below.

01 Phase

Phase 01

Comprehensive IT Infrastructure Management and User Support

Day-to-day environment administration and responsive support for office staff
  • Workstation configuration and preparation for new employees and equipment changes.
  • Local server maintenance: monitoring, updates, and resource management.
  • Network infrastructure administration: routers, switches, and WiFi access points.
  • Fortigate firewall management: rule configuration, signature updates, and security policy audits.
  • Installation and maintenance of endpoint security systems (ESET Endpoint Security).
  • Ongoing user support: fault diagnosis and resolution, peripheral hardware configuration.
  • Configuration and support of video conferencing systems for meeting rooms.
  • Mobile device security management for employees (F-Secure Mobile Security).
  • Support for the deployment and ongoing administration of Microsoft 365.

02 Phase

Phase 02

Implementation of a Multi-Tier Backup System

Eliminating the risk of data loss through automated backup with an offline copy
  • Analysis of data protection requirements and definition of the backup policy.
  • Deployment of Synology NAS as the central backup repository.
  • Configuration of automated, scheduled server backups.
  • Implementation of an additional offline copy on external media as protection against ransomware incidents.
  • Restore tests to verify the integrity and effectiveness of backup procedures.
  • Documentation of recovery procedures for internal purposes and headquarters requirements.

03 Phase

Phase 03

IT Infrastructure Migration to a New Office Location

Full execution of the IT environment relocation without loss of operational continuity
  • Analysis of the new location requirements and planning of the office network architecture.
  • Structured cabling installation: copper cabling, cable management routes, and labelling.
  • Installation of network outlets and configuration of patch panels in the server rack.
  • Rack setup and configuration: hardware mounting and cable management.
  • Configuration and optimisation of the WiFi network using Aruba Access Points.
  • Network infrastructure testing prior to go-live.
  • Physical transport and reinstallation of all IT equipment in the new location.
  • Preparation of workstations for all users.
  • Post-migration verification of the entire environment.

04 Phase

Phase 04

Network Infrastructure Modernisation and Integration with Headquarters

Aligning the environment with current security standards and global organisation requirements
  • Migration to next-generation Fortigate firewall: increased performance and expanded traffic filtering capabilities.
  • Deployment of HP Managed Switches (24-port) with full VLAN support.
  • VLAN segmentation configuration: segregation of user, management, and guest WiFi traffic.
  • Integration of local network infrastructure with the global Schurter corporate network.
  • Configuration coordination with the central IT department in Switzerland: IP addressing, routing, and VPN policy alignment.
  • Network architecture documentation in compliance with global organisation requirements.

Power Infrastructure Stability

The reliability of IT infrastructure extends beyond software and networking. During the long-term management of the Schurter Poland environment, the Professnet team identified a potential issue with the uninterruptible power supply system. Battery degradation in the UPS unit could, in a worst-case scenario, lead to an abrupt server shutdown and consequent data loss.

Thanks to proactive infrastructure monitoring, the issue was detected before it caused a failure. Remediation was carried out in two stages:

  • Deployment of the UPS EVER Sinline: providing protection for the server and active network equipment against power surges and prolonged supply interruptions.
  • Battery replacement after several years of operation: extending the service life of the unit and maintaining full power backup capacity.

Both actions were completed without any interruption to office operations and serve as a prime example of the Professnet approach to infrastructure management: acting on early warning signs before they escalate into failures.

Professnet Expert on the Project

For local branches of global corporations, the key is not only ensuring smooth day-to-day IT operations, but also the ability to respond rapidly to organisational changes, such as the relocation of an entire office. In the case of Schurter, we built an environment that meets the rigorous standards of the Swiss headquarters, while being managed locally, close to the users. This combination of global standards and local commitment is the foundation of our partnership.
